Home      Weapons - Kobudo
Traditional Okinawan Weapons training at the Eaton dojo is performed on rare occasion, but as demand increases, so shall classes.

Classes are held regionally at our other dojo in the area, see links and always check with your Sensei before signing up for classes at another dojo.

In the past we have practiced specific katas of bo, sai and other traditional Okinawan weapons as passed down to us through the teachers of Shorin-ryu Karate.

We have come to greatly appreciate the mastery and pure understanding of Kobudo that Kyoshi Devorah Yoshiko Dometrich of Ryukyu Kobudo Hozon Shinkokai Beikoku So Honbu, okinawakobudo.com who is dedicated to continuing the work of Taira Shinken and Akamine Eisuke in the preservation and promotion of the ancient Ryukyuan fighting traditions.

She is now lighting the way for the WSKF to advance in the understandings of  Kobudo.  From the first time you hear, "your waza sucks big time" to the great feeling you get when you hear that something you did "didn't completely suck" you know you have a teacher who is paying attention to what you are doing in class.  The words may not be completely polite, but the point is made and you will learn, if you want to learn.

Below is the Kobudo Patch (see note below), and a picture of Kyoshi Dometrich and Sensei Avery at the 2003 WSKF Internationals at the end of a long day of training.
