Home      Class Structure

Normal Class Routines

1.  All classes start with warm-up exercises.

2.  “Basics” are next.  Every class will have Basics either traditionally or in an alternate form.

3.  This is normally followed by a series of repetition exercises and advanced physical training.

4.  Next is Kata, a series of prearranged movements, usually in the form of an imaginary fight against multiple opponents.

5.  Other training depending on the needs of the students as observed by Sensei.

Other training includes:

1.  Yokosoko Kumite, commonly called one step sparing, against a single partner,

2.  Uke Waza, blocking techniques with partner.

3.  Arm Training, routines to help toughen the wrists, with a partner.

4.  Self-defense training, controlling techniques, can be more grappling in nature.

5.  Tumbling and Falling training.

6.  And other things too numerous to mention.

Not every thing is taught every class.  There is simply not enough time.  All classes have steps 1 and 4.

Basics are the most important thing to study in Karate.  Everything else is based on the Basics.

Do not let the name “Basics” fool you,. The Basics are anything but “Basic”.

As you grow in Karate, and gain a greater understanding of the Basics, you will grow in your abilities, and all of the things that they are teaching you to do.

Sometimes an entire class is spent on nothing but Basics.  This is how important they are to the development of Karate skills.
